         SUBMERCER & GABOPATRA THANK YOU!!!
WOW, whatta party!  My deepest and sincerest thanks to all of you dear and absolutely lovely youze who came out to our last special edition of WORK with Eli Escobar & Lloydski, and my When In Rome birthday bacchanal!!  We had such a genius time re-enacting the excesses of Ancient Rome in our subterranean wine cellar with all of our fellow Dionysians!  Props to those who got into the festive spirit of things…especially, Elizabeth Navarro, who came as an arresting Medusa who certainly stopped every man in his tracks!  This Cleopatra certainly is a lover of Rome and its colourful citizens!  ;)
Special thanks to WORK residents, Eli Escobar & Lloydski; as well as guest DJs:  Saheer (House of House), Justin Strauss, Jacques Renault, DJ Soul, Ge-Ology, and Neil Aline.  And last but not least, photographers Kenny Rodriguez and Charles Rousseau who perfectly captured the fun and glory of the epic debauchery with their expert lenses!

WORK, SPECIAL EDITION: GABBY’S BIRTHDAY BACCHANAL

Friends, Romans, Countrymen,

Lend me your ears,
Or better yet your chalices
So we can say “Cheers!”

In the grand tradition of my birthdays past,
Let’s put on some costumes and all have a blast.
This year we’ll pay homage to Ancient Rome,
A debaucherous place we’d have loved to call home.

So to celebrate 34 years of making wonderful friends,
This Thursday, we binge and be naughty, dress up and make pretend
That we’re senators and soldiers and even slaves, if you like,
Just make sure you wear togas and sandals and dress the part right!

And I apologise profusely that this invitation comes late
But Rome wasn’t built in a day, my good mate.
Get thee to your nearest Halloween pop-up store,
They’ll have all the props you need and more.

But if you haven’t got time, cojones or much imagination,
We’ll also have other props to facilitate your participation.
(And for reference’s sake, I’ve attached videos for your wardrobe education.)

Just like the city that Romulus built,
The night will be fraught with indulgences sans guilt.
Our walls, too, shall floweth o’er with wine
Because that’s our idea of a fabulous time.

Veni, vedi, vici,
Amo meus amici.

*And btw, thanks for all the sweet, warm greetings today.
You guys really know how to make this ole gal’s birthday!*

Love or what you will.
G.

Just wait till you see what we’ve done with the place!  Try to wear white and/or gold!

                     THANK IRENE IT’S FRIDAY!!

Once again, subMercer and its director, Camp Gabby, are co-hosting NY’s best fiesta in years at The Palms this weekend.  And due to Hurricane Irene, we’ve moved the party from rainy Saturday to Friday — the only forecasted glorious, sunny day of the weekend!  Bring your friends, your swimsuit (we’ve got POOLS!), and an appetite for food (we’ve got food trucks), booze (duh!), good music & dancing (3 huge dancefloors; see lineup below)…and even shopping (we’ve got 2 retails shops)!

To ring in the festivities, we’ve enlisted the talents of 3 of our fav ((M)) resident DJs:  Lloydski (WORK/Night People/Hardy Boys); Justin Strauss (Justin/Justin, Whatever/Whatever) and Max Pask (Populette), and none but our very own Richard Alvarez will be doing the door.  The music maestros will be droppin aural science from 8pm - 12am, inside, outside, upstairs and downstairs…coz we like to give you options and freedom.  ;)

And there’s more!  We’re doing the party with our favourite, progressive art partners, 3rd Ward, along with The Danger, Artists Wanted, Blk Market Membership, Mean Red and Wolf + Lamb.  Here’s the killer lineup:

Two floors of an abandoned bank have been re-imagined as The Palms.

NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED DURING THE FILMING OF THIS WORK EPISODE

Haha, good Ole Stretch Armstrong and his trusty Flip cam dropped by Eli Escobar’s and Blu Jemz’s EPIC DJ-bonanza of a birthday fiesta (WORK) just at the right (blackmail) moment.  Hands-down one of the most ridiculous parties of the year, 300-heads strong and all of NYC’s finest DJs paying tribute to the birthday boys…but maybe not quite at their finest, ha!  ENJOY!  We sure as hell did!

“Wactors” (in order of appearance):  Camp Gabby, Jacques Renault, DJ Duane Harriott, Eli Escobar, Lloydski, Stretch Armstrong  ;)

Prince Language “On The Double” edit
Alright, we’re wrapping up our Prince Language Homage Day with our favourite edit of his of “On The Double,” which was originally “Trouble” by Fleetwood Mac guitarist/vocalist/composer, Lindsey Buckingham.  We LOVE this, and so do Alex From Tokyo, Justin Miller and Justin Strauss, just to name a few who are fond of dropping it.

PRINCE LANGUAGE FABRIC LONDON SUMMER MIX
Nearly a decade ago, we used to go, rather religiously, to a forlorn bar in the Lower East Side on Tuesday nights with nary a soul inside except for Chicago-native, Language (he wasn’t Prince yet then), on the decks and a shorty named, Silky, donning a Superman necklace and covered in sweat from dancing his face off.  Silky was ahead of the curve and knew what was up (so did we, ha!):  that NYC was sleeping on this dude who would one day be Prince.  And while we could have him and the dancefloor all to ourselves, dammit, we would!  Language paid his dues and came up the ranks, holding down popular residencies at Spa and legendary NYC music venue, APT, where he was one third of Negroclash — a party recently resuscitated at subMercer last season — along with esteemed co-DJs, DJ Lindsey and Duane Harriott.  Over the years, he’s taken his multilingual,  beat-making experience and focused his musical talents and know-how on dance music, producing some brilliant disco/house albums, edits and mixes under The No Comprendo (that’s him) that leave his listeners clamouring for more.
This particular precious-little-diamond of a promo mix that he did for Fabric London pumped on repeat for a good couple of weeks from our speakers and in our headphones.  It’s a summer mix he did that includes some new, yet-to-be-released tracks by other subMercer friends and residents, like Dr. Dunks (a.k.a. Eric Duncan), Jacques Renault, Bim Marx (Duane Harriott & Jorge Velez), and Saheer Umar of House of House, and of course, the Prince himself.  With his proven ability to lead masses to the dancefloor and speak his universal language of music, he has aptly earned the title of Prince.
We’re proud of you, Prince Language — You’ve come a long way, baby!!
Oh, and you can like his new Facebook public profile at:  http://www.facebook.com/princelanguage?ref=ts&v=wall.  And of course, when we reopen our doors, you’ll find him playing regularly again, alongside other greats like Justin Strauss, Duane and Lindsey, to name a few.
Now, click on the Prince’s photo above for a link to the mix, and PUMP UP THE VOLUME, PUMP UP THE VOLUME!!l
