A PERFECT ((M)) NIGHT WITH MLLE CARO

A few months ago, we were blessed to get an exclusive on Paris-based Rex Club and Le Pulp resident DJ, MLLE CARO.  Caroline (Laher) is also a featured artist on Ben Watt’s Buzz n Fly and she has just put out a killer album with Remain on our very own James F!@#$%^ Friedman’s Throne of Blood label.

Never before had we received so many desperate emails the following day, begging us for the name of the DJ and where one could “hear that music again.”  We’re still reeling from that night, so we promise to bring her back STAT.

And on October 14th, Throne of Blood returns with Caro’s partner-in-crime, Remain.  Don’t miss it.  We have a feeling it’s going to be as epic and transporting as Caro’s US debut at sub!

”DESIRE” BY ELI ESCOBAR, FEATURING NOMI RUIZ

Award-winning documentary “Downtown Calling” director, Shan Nicholson, certainly called on downtown’s best club kids to shoot this video for new dance single, “Desire,” by Eli Escobar, featuring vocals by Jessica 6 siren, Nomi Ruiz.  Eli Escobar, “NY’s finest,” is one of our fav subMercer residents, and we were honoured to have him shoot his music video at our club.  NYC nightlife fixture, Prince Terrence (drummer for Spank Rock and Santigold) walks around SoHo, inviting a P.Y.T. to the city’s best subterranean dance lair (ahem), subMercer, of course!  And that’s our man, Fits, at the door high-five’in him into our underground party den.  ;)

Check out Interview Magazine’s blurb on it HERE.

Congrats Eli and Nomi!  We love the song and video, and you’ve certainly left us desiring more!

                     THANK IRENE IT’S FRIDAY!!

Once again, subMercer and its director, Camp Gabby, are co-hosting NY’s best fiesta in years at The Palms this weekend.  And due to Hurricane Irene, we’ve moved the party from rainy Saturday to Friday — the only forecasted glorious, sunny day of the weekend!  Bring your friends, your swimsuit (we’ve got POOLS!), and an appetite for food (we’ve got food trucks), booze (duh!), good music & dancing (3 huge dancefloors; see lineup below)…and even shopping (we’ve got 2 retails shops)!

To ring in the festivities, we’ve enlisted the talents of 3 of our fav ((M)) resident DJs:  Lloydski (WORK/Night People/Hardy Boys); Justin Strauss (Justin/Justin, Whatever/Whatever) and Max Pask (Populette), and none but our very own Richard Alvarez will be doing the door.  The music maestros will be droppin aural science from 8pm - 12am, inside, outside, upstairs and downstairs…coz we like to give you options and freedom.  ;)

And there’s more!  We’re doing the party with our favourite, progressive art partners, 3rd Ward, along with The Danger, Artists Wanted, Blk Market Membership, Mean Red and Wolf + Lamb.  Here’s the killer lineup:

                       SUBMERCER AT THE PALMS

This Saturday, August 20th, subMercer’s very own Gabby Mejia (a.k.a. Camp Gabby) hosts the late-nite whisper session of Night Swimming at The Palms — the new indoor/outdoor/upstairs/downstairs/wet/dry-over-the-top, summer fun space brought to you by the good people of 3rd Ward, who converted an old bank into the summer fantasy that must have filled the head of a young John Waters.  With the infamous dumpster pools brought to you by Macro Sea, and Luke’s Lobster food truck slinging lobster rolls all day, and a chic boutique selling hip apparel, vintage super soakers and seriously cool shades, and of course, music by subMercer’s booker, there’s bound to be something for everybody.  From midnight to 4am, Gabby has enlisted the talents of subMercer favourites, Tim Sweeney (Beats In Space) and Soho 808 (Wurst), to grace the decks — WOWZERS!!

URSULA 1000’S MUSIC VIDEO SHOT AT SUBMERCER

Recently, subMercer barman and film maker extraordinaire, Gi Young Rhee, shot a music video for the BK-based, musically well-versed artist, Ursula 1000, at everyone’s favourite subterranean home-away-from-home, ye old subMercer.  Here’s the delightful result.  Get your shimmy on and enjoy!

subMercer is Now a Label

standardhotels:

It’s finally happened. We’re proud to announce the debut of a new music label for the subMercer, the nightclub within one of our sister hotels, The Mercer. The label launched with a single from subMercer DJ’s, Marcos Cabral/Eli Escobar with a “It’s On You” / “Lonely Fee” (plus remixes). This makes it the first time a hotel puts out 12” record with original, non mainstream productions.

With its musical virtuosity from the established residencies of New York’s top DJs and producers, subMercer - a creative party lab, if you will - has emerged as one of NYC’s foremost, undiluted club music venues. This is largely thanks to the creative advocacy of its owner, André Balazs, and the fastidious bookings and uncompromising vision of its director, Gabby Mejia.

(The Mercer, The Famous Lobby in NYC. The Rest of the Action Happens Downstairs)

Gabby has been a consummate hostess and nurturer of the bar with its unique “family feel” for music-philes and industry types alike. We got a hold of Gabby on the last party night of this season at subMercer (the bar shuts down for a period in the summer with a reopening around Fashion Week).

Gabby shared a few things about work, the extended AB family, and the new label…

                      JAY N ‘YE LOVE SUBMERCER
The illustrious kings of hip hop, Jay Z and Kanye West, have brilliantly shrouded their forthcoming, highly-anticipated “Watch The Throne” album in secrecy over the last few months.  But now it seems the album is nearly ready to drop and they’ve been giving a few teaser “listens” to those lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time, which of course, is always the magical serendipity one experiences at The Mercer.  On July 7th, Jay Z hosted a private listening party to about 20 bloggers, two lucky teenage winners (and their parents), and subMercer Director, Gabby Mejia, who was thrilled to sit in as a fly on the wall.  And last week, the dynamic duo hosted a secret party at subMercer to drop the massive album on close friends and fam, holding court with other hip hop royalty, such as P. Diddy and more.  All we can say is that the album is EPIC, and so was the party!!
